How did we get here
Harvey Kogen and his fabulous son Sam
Harvey is one of the best when it comes to playing his tenor / soprano / alto saxophones, flute or clarinet. He has a substantial musical career background. In 1979, he was nominated for a Juno Award for the Ted Moses and the Mother Necessity Big Band album “More Than Ever” in the category of Best Jazz Recording. He has an extensive list on his CV of theatre, stage show, orchestra, jazz festival, television, radio and film appearances.
To name a few, in his stage appearances, he has covered names like Natalie Cole, Diana Krall, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Tina Turner, Donny Osmond, Three Dog Night, and Rod Stewart.
Sam plays the piano, keyboards and guitar. He is on the album “The Tide Turns” with the Brad Cheeseman Group, the same group he won the “Best Jazz Instrumental” with at the Montreal Grand Prix de Jazz. The album hit #1 on the National Jazz Charts for four weeks. Following the year in 2018, the album was nominated for “Jazz Album of the Year: Solo” at the Juno Awards.
